PHOENIX -- The family of fallen Phoenix police officer Daryl Raetz has received a check from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Memorial Fund and Danny's Car Wash.
The check for $40,000 was presented to them in Arpaio's office on Monday.
Raetz died on May 19 after he was struck by an SUV while making a DUI arrest. He was a veteran of the Iraq war and served six years with the Phoenix Police Department.
Jesus Molina is the driver police believe struck Raetz. Molina is charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal collision, both of which are felonies. He entered a plea of not guilty on June 19.
"I want to thank the community for helping me and remembering Daryl," said Stephanie Raetz, Daryl's wife, during Monday's presentation of the check.
Since it was established in 1998, the Sheriff's Memorial Fund has paid out around $600,000 to the families of fallen law enforcement officers in Arizona.
