PHOENIX -- Although there are still 24 days to go until Election Day, early voting is already under way in Maricopa County.

If you are on the permanent early voting list or requested an early ballot for the Nov. 6 General Election, your ballot went in the mail Thursday.

According to the Maricopa County Elections Department, more than 1.1 million of the county's 1.8 million registered voters should be receiving those ballots.

"There is a potential for over 900,000 early ballots to be cast in the November General Election," wrote Yvonne A. Reed, the director of communications for the Maricopa County Elections Department, in an email to media outlets.

If you have not yet signed up for an early ballot, you still have time. The last day for requests is Oct. 26. Voters can still vote at an early voting satellite up through 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.

An NPR report last month cited experts as saying that as many as 35 percent of votes could be cast before Nov. 6 and that a record number of early votes is expected.
