GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The man who was found to have been shot after getting into a car crash early Friday morning in Goodyear has died.
Goodyear police said 21-year-old David Carrillo lost his life early Saturday morning.
The incident in question took place just after 2 a.m. Friday morning at McDowell and Litchfield roads.
Apparently, the people involved in the shooting and car crash had been fighting at a bar earlier, according to police.
"At a bar in Avondale. Game Time Bar there was some sort of an altercation and the vehicles were chasing each other," said Lisa Kutis with the Goodyear Police Dept.
When police arrived at the scene of the crash they witnessed a black sedan leaving the area. Officers pursued that vehicle and the female driver stopped at a nearby strip mall.
That woman and her three male passengers, all in their 20s, surrendered peacefully and were taken into police custody.
Police said they recovered a gun believed to be used in the shooting.
Police have since identified the suspects as Daniel Lopez, 25, and Breanna Lopez, 23. They were both charged with attempted first-degree murder, although those charges will be upgraded now that Carrillo has died.
It's not clear if Carrillo was shot before or after the collision with a street sign. The male passenger in that car was also injured in the crash.
Both men were taken to the hospital. The passenger is expected to be OK.
McDowell Road from Dysart Road to 136th Avenue as well as the intersection at Palm Valley Boulevard and McDowell Road Road were closed until approximately 10 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the Goodyear Police Department. Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
