PHOENIX -- A woman was killed after she drove her SUV into a support pole on eastbound Loop 101 at Interstate 17 Friday morning.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident, which occurred at approximately 10 a.m.

Witnesses said the driver might have been speeding prior to impact. Lt. Steve Harrison with DPS said there were estimates that the car was going 80 mph to 90 mph.

The driver was the only person in the car.

There is no word on the woman's identity, but DPS says she is 50 years old.
