PHOENIX -- Before the turkey had even cooled, some hard core shoppers were out the door to get a jump start on … waiting. They were already lined up to be the first to cash in on Black Friday deals.

The ads have filled up the local paper, each store bragging they have the best deal in town. At Best Buy off Camelback Road and 20th Street, that early bird is Debbie Pechac. “There is a computer for $179.99,” she said. “There is a limit of six per store, and I am one of the first six so I am sure I will get one."

She got there at 8 a.m. Thursday and will camp out until the store opens at 5 a.m. Friday. "I do it every year,” she said. “I come out here and I sleep out here – I’m usually the first or second one – I buy computers every year, and save $200-$300 on everything."

Retail stores are optimistic that this year will be better than last year. According to a recent survey, one third of consumers plan to spend more on the holiday season than they did just two months ago, and of those, 86% say they will spend more on gifts.

Debbie says spending quality family time together is still a priority; they just do it in a less traditional way. “We won’t have dinner today; we will have it another day,” she explained. “My family will come join me in a little while and we’ll all sit here all night long together. And that’s how we have spent our Thanksgiving every year for the last four or five years.”
