EL MIRAGE, Ariz. - Five suspected gang members were arrested Thursday morning after search warrants were executed in El Mirage.
The Department of Public Safety and members of the El Mirage Police Department served four search warrants resulting in the arrest of the suspects allegedly involved in numerous drive-by shootings, armed robberies and assaults.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves tells The Associated Press the suspects are known as key players in a series of crimes. Graves says 'Operation Eminent Domain' is intended to "cut the head off" a criminal organization by arresting the people described as the ringleaders.
Among the arrested are two adults and three juveniles. Police have only identified the adults as 19-year-old Jonathan Arellano and 18-year-old Jose Castro II.
El Mirage Police Chief Michael Frazier says, "This is an example of excellent work by DPS GIITEM detectives along with El Mirage police. The arrests of these five dangerous gang members will hopefully go a long way toward making the community safer."
The suspects face charges of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and assisting a criminal street gang.
