PHOENIX -- Kids and parents poured into the gym at Grand Canyon University on Sunday, all for back to school supplies.

That’s because they were all free.

“It's kind of good, it kind of let's us know that the community does care about the people out here, it's a good thing you know,” said Victor Perez. Because of Community Help, whose kids will now be at a level learning field with everyone else. “It's kind of good that they're showing love to the community and for the kids that can't afford to get a backpack, it's kind of good and it helps out a lot of people it works for everybody.”

This is the 9th year Ninos Seguros has hosted a back to school and safety fair.

“One of the main reasons we put this on today, is most schools start tomorrow or Wednesday, this is for the families that can't afford it and really can't go anywhere else, we're hoping to help out in that manner,” said Ninos Seguros Director Ray Arvizu.

Along with school supplies, kids also have to be up to date with their shots, which is where the Phoenix Fire Department stepped in offering free pokes in the arm for an immunization shot.

“Hopefully we keep them healthy and that's the whole key and that's more important for firefighters is to prevent that tragedy from occurring,” said Deputy Chief Frank Salomon.

Another year, another huge success as more than 7,500 people showed up, all now ready to learn.
