CHANDLER - Chandler police made an arrest related to a 2006 murder investigation.

Chandler police arrested Rodrigo Romero Jr., 22, for aggravated assault, assisting a criminal street gang and gang threats stemming from the murder of Lindsay Key.

Key, 19, was murdered three years ago in a drive-by shooting at a home on Erie Street.

During the investigation, police discovered Romero was involved in a dispute with another street gang an hour prior to the murder at a home on the same street where Key was murdered. In this altercation Romero displayed a gun.

Later, on the evening of Dec. 3, 2006, Key was attending a party also attended by those gang members Romero had the altercation with earlier that day. According to police, that is when Key was one of six shot in a drive-by shooting. She was the only victim to die as a result of the drive-by.

Key was not associated with any of the gangs involved and was only there visiting friends at the party.

Romero has not been charged with Key's murder but is one of the suspects. Chandler police say they have other suspects who will be arrested in connection to the homicide.

Police are encouraging those who have information to come forward now that Romero is in jail and call 480-782-4130.
