PHOENIX -- Gov. Jan Brewer says she didn't do as well as she wanted in her televised debate with challenger Terry Goddard.

Brewer paused during her opening statement during the Wednesday evening debate, and on Thursday she told Phoenix radio station
KTAR-FM that it was, in her words, "the longest 16 seconds of my life."

After the debate, she abruptly halted a question-and-answer session with reporters after refusing to answer questions about Goddard's debate charge that Arizona's image was hurt by Brewer's June statement about beheadings in the desert.

Brewer said Thursday there have been headless bodies found in Mexico and that border violence could spill over into Arizona.

She said the line of post-debate questioning was unfair but that her leaving might have been "the wrong thing to do."
