SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. -- A 3-year-old boy who was pulled from a pool in the far East Valley Monday night has died.

According to Tim Gaffney with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Jaxon Payne's parents reported that they were talking with friends in the backyard of their home in the 39000 block of North Foxtail Lane in San Tan Valley.

Jaxon was swimming in the pool with his sister and her friend. The parents said they had the pool gate propped open with a bucket to allow for a clear view of their pool so they could watch their children.

Jaxon's dad went to check on the children and discovered Jaxon face down in the water. He pulled Jaxon from the pool and the boy's mother called 911.

Rural Metro Fire Department dispatchers gave CPR instructions over the phone and Jaxon's father performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived.

It's unknown how long the boy was in the water before he was found.

The boy was flown to a hospital in extremely critical condition and later was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing. Gaffney said no determination has been made regarding any possible charges.
