CHANDLER, Ariz. – Police are searching for the armed man who tried to rob a cleaning woman who was working at a Chandler building overnight.
It started at about 11 p.m. Thursday at the Teens Dental Center at Ray Road and Loop 101.
"A woman was in the dental office cleaning when she heard a loud bang," Chandler police Detective Seth Tyler explained in an email to media outlets. "The bang was the suspect forcing his way into the business. She was alone and fled before police were called."
When officers arrived on the scene, they summoned the SWAT team because they were not sure if the suspect was still in the building.
Not knowing the situation inside the office, police took no chances, operating as if the suspect were holed up and ready to make a move.
3TV's Jill Galus arrived on the scene at about 4 a.m. --several hours after the initial break-in -- to find a large police presence, including K-9 units and robotic equipment used by SWAT officers.
It turns out the armed suspect was gone by the time officers got there.
Police say the would-be robber got away empty-handed and the cleaning woman who was there when he broke in was not hurt
At this point, investigators have not released a description of the suspect.
