PHOENIX -- The Arizona Girl Scouts sold more than 3.2 million boxes of their famous cookies this year, the most they have ever sold, according to the organization.

About 17,600 girl scouts across Central and Northern Arizona sold boxes upon boxes, the Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council said, almost 10 percent more than they sold last year.

Each girl averaged about 184 boxes sold, with 20 scouts selling at least 2,000. The top seller moved 5,002 boxes.

Thin Mints were once again the top sellers, according to the GSACPC, taking up 34 percent of sales. They were followed by Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils and Savannah Smiles.

The proceeds raised by the cookies go right back to the Girl Scouts, the GSACPC said. This year, Arizona scouts also raised enough money to build two cabins at Camp Sombrero in Phoenix.
