SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Everything you need to know about long term survival can be found at the Prepper Fest AZ expo in North Scottsdale. You’ll find canned food, water filtration systems and an ambulance in a bag.

“This is pretty much a portable MASH surgical unit,” said event organizer Tony Tangalos, showing me a bright orange bag contain everything from scalpels and forceps to  IV drip solutions and lidocaine.

You’ll also find unique ways to grow food.

“It's called aquaponics," Tangalos said. "We have tilapia fish that swim in the water. Their waste product goes to fertilize the plants and then the plants filter the water that comes back to the tilapia."

In a major disaster situation, the police may not always be available, meaning you may have to protect yourself or your family.

“We have all sorts of accessories -- flashlights, scopes for your rifles and guns, basically accessories for your firearms collection to really hot rod it and top it off,” Tangalos said.

Along with all the vendors, the festival also offers several education classes about long-term survival.

Prepper Fest started Friday morning and runs through the weekend. It's located at the Scottsdale/101, 7000 E. Mayo, near the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road. You'll find it between Sports Authority and Babies R Us.

Admission is $12 for all three days of the event.
