PHOENIX (AP) — The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed a former school board member to the Arizona Senate.

Supervisors on Monday chose David Braswell to replace Pamela Gorman, who resigned last month to run for Congress. Braswell and Gorman are both Republicans.

Braswell was chosen from three candidates nominated by the District 6 Republicans. He is a former governing board member for the Washington Elementary and Glendale Union High School districts. He is also the chief executive of an education technology research company.

The Phoenix resident will represent a district that includes north Phoenix, New River and Anthem.

Supervisors have not yet voted on replacements for Sen. Jim Waring and Rep. Sam Crump, who also resigned to run for Congress.
