PHOENIX (AP) — When Timothy Romans found out his wife was pregnant with their first child, he vowed he would always be there for his children because he knew how hard it is to grow up without a father figure.
Twenty years later, Romans was forced to break that promise when police say an 8-year-old St. Johns boy shot him to death last year. The boy, now 9, also is accused of fatally shooting his own father.
In letters unsealed by an eastern Arizona judge on Wednesday, Tanya Romans wrote that her husband was a wonderful father who adored his two daughters and was a loving husband who still gave her butterflies.
Tanya Romans wrote the letters to Apache County Superior Court Judge Michael Roca pleading with him to place the boy in juvenile detention instead of allowing him to remain free with his mother.
