NOGALES, Ariz. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 425 pounds of marijuana concealed in a truckload of piñatas.

Officers at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, Ariz., referred Juan Marcelo Armstrong, 24, of Tucson, for additional inspection when he attempted to enter the United States Friday afternoon.

After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs inside Armstrong's truck, officers located and removed numerous packages of marijuana in the shipment of assorted piñatas, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

Earlier Friday afternoon, officers at the same port of entry found more than 7 pounds of methamphetamine in the oil pan of a Chevrolet sedan. Agents detained the driver, Pedro de Jesus Magana-Caballero, 28, of Nogales, Mexico.

The drugs and vehicles from both cases were processed for seizure.

Armstrong and Magana were arrested and turned over to the agency's Homeland Security Investigations.
