PHOENIX -- Police are searching for the suspect in an early morning double shooting in West Phoenix.

It started with a confrontation at club shortly before 3 a.m., and ended with a fight at a home in the neighborhood of 111th Avenue and Camelback Road.

According to Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department, there were probably about 50 people in the area at the height of the altercation, watching the fight.

Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. What they know for certain is that two people were shot. Martos said the victims -- both men in their early 20s -- were taken to Banner Estrella Medical Center by friends.

One of the victims was hit several times and was in extremely critical condition at last check. That person was air-lifted to a level-one trauma center.

The other victim's injuries were not life-threatening, Martos said.

Detectives do not know what sparked the fight, but they are hoping witnesses can shed some light on the situation.

"There were many people here," he said. "Somebody has to have some information to provide to us. We've been having some challenges trying to gather that information."

There are few details about the suspect, but Martos said officers are a black man fled the scene in a gray or silver Chrysler 300.

"We're hoping some one will be able to give us further information," he said.

Officers are questioning neighbors about what they might have seen or heard.

"I didn't see anything. All I heard was a lot of noise," Janette Delfure told 3TV's Javier Soto, explaining that she and her kids got on the floor as soon as they heard the gun shots.
