PHOENIX -- An 18-year-old Valley man was hospitalized in extremely critical condition Friday night after being struck while crossing the street.

Phoenix police said just after 11 p.m. three pedestrians were crossing westbound against the light at 2700 W. Glendale Avenue when a 25-year-old motorist came through the intersection on a green light.

Two of the pedestrians made it across the road safely, but the 18-year-old was struck by the vehicle.

The man was taken to a local hospital where police first said that he had died. Authorities later said that he remains in extremely critical condition.

The driver stayed on scene and was found to not be impaired. However, he did not have a license so his vehicle was impounded.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
