PHOENIX – A boy was shot in the arm and pelvis while at a shooting range with his father.

Lt. Chuck Williams, with the Phoenix Police  Department, says the child was shot just before 11 a.m. on Saturday near the Ben Avery shooting range in Phoenix. The  weapon was a pistol and not a shotgun as was initially reported.

The circumstances surrounding the incident is still being investigated but 3TV has learned the boy was with his father in the desert at the time of the shooting.

Lt. Williams tells 3TV, "The thing I want to stress here is please parents, have your kids be careful. Watch your kids around guns."

The boy was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and his medical condition is unknown at this time but he is expected to make a full recovery.
