PHOENIX -- Police have identified the man killed in an early morning car-pedestrian wreck near Metro Center in Phoenix Monday.

Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said Frank Joseph Frassetto, 67, was crossing the street shortly before 8 a.m. when a black Nissan Altima hit him on Peoria Avenue at 28th Drive.

Frassetto was rushed to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

The young driver, who stopped and is cooperating with police, was in the middle lane of Peoria Avenue, heading east. He told investigators he did not see the light turn red.

Other witnesses confirmed that Frassetto was in the marked crosswalk and had the right of way when he was hit.

Police said it appears that the driver of the Nissan, who has not been identified, was distracted.

"He experienced a problem with his sun visor and was attempting to adjust it while driving," Martos said in an email to media outlets.

At this point, that driver will probably face a charge of failure to stop at a red light. Other charges could follow.
