1 person detained after shooting in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police have detained one person following a shooting in the parking lot of an office complex near Baseline and Rural roads Thursday morning.

Police officers established a perimeter to secure the area. Police spokeswoman Molly Enright said the officers cleared the building and evacuated the occupants to assure their safety.

Enright said officers found one person with a gunshot wound. Medics treated the victim, who was conscious and talking. No information about the victim has been released.

An aerial view from Bruce Haffner in the Fort McDowell Casino News Chopper showed police taking a man into custody at about 9:10 a.m.

Sgt. Mike Pooley said there are no outstanding suspects and police are still trying to determine a motive.

Arredondo Elementary School was put into lockdown as a precaution.

Police are in the early stages of the investigation. Details will be updated as they become available.
