PHOENIX -- Police are investigating a deadly car-pedestrian wreck in Central Phoenix.

It happened after 10 p.m. According to police, a group of about 30 tourists had just gotten off the Light Rail after going to Tuesday night's Diamondbacks game.

The group, which was made up of people from all over the world, was crossing Seventh Avenue at Camelback Road in the crosswalk when an SUV heading south hit the last person in the group, Ramzy Khalil, 29 . Police said that SUV barely missed other members of the group.

Witnesses said the SUV was speeding and at least one person said the vehicle might have run a red light, but police have not yet confirmed that.

"The last individual who was crossing was hit by that SUV," said Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department. "The pedestrian in this case was knocked in total probably several hundred feet."

The SUV hit two other vehicles after hitting Khalil. The vehicle then crashed into a wall and caught fire. The driver of that SUV and the drivers of those other two cars were all taken to the hospital. Their injuries reportedly were not life threatening.

Police have not yet determined if the SUV driver was impaired, but they are talking to that person. They are also talking to dozens of witnesses.

Detectives have not released the names of anyone involved in the wreck outside of the victim.

The intersection of Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road was closed for nearly 12 hours. Police finally opened everything about 9:30 a.m.  While the Light Rail was running through the area during the closure, the Seventh Avenue station was closed.
