LAKE PLEASANT, Ariz. -- A woman was killed and four other people were hurt when two boats collided on Lake Pleasant Saturday evening.

It happened at about 6 p.m. near Scorpion Bay. The lake reportedly was quite crowded at the time.

Witnesses said the boats were going in opposite directions when they collided. One boat actually ran over the top of the other.

Amber Marks, 32, was in the smaller boat underneath. The Mesa woman was killed instantly.

At least two people were air-lifted to John C. Lincoln Hospital. The other two victims were also taken to the hospital. All of those who were hurt were in the boat that was run over.

“Two people got pulled out on stretchers,” said Don Peyser, a boat mechanic who has worked at Lake Pleasant for about 10 years. He saw the accident.

“One woman was able to walk out,” he said.

None of the victims have been identified at this point.

Jeff Sprong of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said alcohol might have been a factor in the wreck, but because it’s so early in the investigation, detectives are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives said they probably will not have any answers until the end the week.

Officials are warning people on the lake to be extra careful this holiday weekend.
