PHOENIX -- Written in just a couple of months in 2010 and shot last year, "Ruby Sparks" is generating all kinds of buzz ahead of hitting theaters.
Zoe Kazan wrote the screenplay and stars as Ruby Sparks, a woman willed into existence by a struggling novelist.
That novelist, Calvin, is played by Kazan's real-life boyfriend Paul Dano.
This isn't the first time Faris and Dayton, who are married, have worked together. They made their directorial debuts together on the 2006 sleeper hit "Little Miss Sunshine," which, by the way, starred Dano.
"Like 'Little Miss Sunshine,' there's a lot of laughs [in 'Ruby Sparks']," Dayton said. "It's an emotional story."
Dayton said the movie was well-received at a local screening.
"They loved it," he said.
The movie "Ruby Sparks" opens in the Valley Aug. 3. It's rated R.
