PHOENIX -- What started as a stalking call, possibly related to a domestic-violence situation, ended with a shooting that left two people dead in a Phoenix neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Shots rang out in the normally quiet area of 12th Street between Union Hills Drive and Grovers Avenue shortly before 8 a.m.
Few details were immediately available, but the Phoenix Police Department's public information officer said the suspect shot a man and then an officer responding to the call shot the suspect. Both men pronounced dead on the scene.
Police have not released any information about the victim or the shooter, nor do they know how the two might have been related or what led up to the initial stalking call.
Aerial video of the scene showed a large police presence south of Union Hills Drive. The action appeared to be centered on a home on the corner.
The officer was not injured. He or she will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure anytime an officer fires his or her weapon.
Officers have closed 12th Street between Union Hills Drive and Grovers Avenue so investigators can do their work.
Police expected to be on the scene for most of the day.
Information will be updated as it comes into the newsroom.
