MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa man was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after he was pinned under his boat at his home near Alma School and Guadalupe roads.

The 39-year-old man was said to be in serious but stable condition.

Mesa firefighters say the man was trying get his 8,000-pound boat up onto a trailer when the jack slipped and he became trapped under the boat and trailer.

The jack may have slipped due to the wet ground.

Neighbors tried to pull the boat off the man but couldn't lift it. Mesa fire and police crews arrived minutes later and were able to lift the boat just enough to get the man out.

The extent of his injuries is not known, but the man was conscious when he was transported to the hospital.

Neighbors say they were worried something like this might happen.

"The neighbors have been talking about that boat all week," one man told 3TV. "The way he had it up on blocks just didn't look safe. One of my neighbors down the street said he was worried that if children got close it could fall on them."
