MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa man faces a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of his brother at their home near Broadway and Crismon roads in Mesa.
Maricopa County sheriff's detectives said John Robert Walsh, 19, shot his 24-year-old brother, Paul Bernard Walsh II, in the chest with a .45-caliber handgun on Wednesday. He then shot himself in the neck.
John Walsh admitted to shooting his brother, saying it was a mix of an accident and self-defense, according to detectives.
Walsh was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He is still recovering in the hospital but has been arrested on a class 1 felony charge of second-degree murder.
The brothers lived in the house with their parents and they called authorities right after the shooting.
