GILBERT, Ariz. -- In this economy it's tough for businesses to stay above water, but there's one business in Gilbert that's booming. It's doing so great thanks to some popular tabletop war games that have fans worldwide.

The company is called BattleFoam and it provides custom foam trays and bags for gamers to get their minature toy soldiers from point A to point B. Tabletop war gaming is so popular, owner Romeo Filip said they send products all over the world.

Filip also said you'd be surprised who plays. They have a gaming saloon and he said he sees all sorts of faces. Many people like  doctors, lawyers, NFL players and even Hollywood stars also play but don't talk about it.

"I think it really goes to the primal kid in you and attracts that kind of feeling," Filip said. "You're playing with little toys, it's kind of like chess with Army men. I don't think anyone over the age of 30 can say, 'Oh yeah I'm proud I play with toy Army men.'"

Filip and his wife, Jama, started BattleFoam three years ago, and now their niche has landed them in an 18,000-square-foot factory in the East Valley. BattleFoam has also created more than 20 job. It also gives business to other local businesses.

In fact, BattleFoam recently started working with a local cabinetmaker who's making cabinets for homes to store the foam with the toys.

"A local cabinetmaker literally two blocks away from us, Four Peaks Cabinets, actually makes these for us," Filip said. "It goes to show you that we've helped other businesses."

If you're interested, BattleFoam does make custom foam for all sorts of things.
