PHOENIX-- About 160 Arizona National Guard soldiers are on their way to Afghanistan.
It was an emotional send off on Wednesday as family and friends gathered to see their loved ones head out.
The soldiers are engineers who will construct roads, helicopters pads and build tank ditches.
For many of the soldiers in the unit, it's their second deployment, but for Private First Class Clinton Handley, it's his first.
"It is scary," he said. "I don't know how to put it into words. You're going somewhere you don't know what the outcome could be."
Like so many of the soldiers, Handley is leaving his wife and six children behind.
The soldiers will first head to Texas for a month of training and then to Afghanistan for a year.
