PHOENIX (AP) -- A judge will hear arguments Thursday over whether to dismiss Gov. Jan Brewer's lawsuit that accuses the federal government of failing to control the Arizona-Mexico border and enforce immigration laws.
The case is a counter-lawsuit that Brewer filed as part of the U.S. Justice Department's lawsuit that seeks to invalidate Arizona's immigration enforcement law.
Brewer claims Washington has failed to protect Arizona from an "invasion" of illegal immigrants and seeks increased reimbursement for the costs of jailing illegal immigrants who commit crimes.
Federal authorities argue Brewer's lawsuit should be dismissed because it raises political questions and that U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton's court wasn't the place to air the governor's grievances.
