Yavapai County Sheriff's Office

PAULDEN - The following is a press release from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office:

On May 25, 2008, at approximately 3 A.M., Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, responded to a report of an upset and intoxicated male brandishing a knife at a residence in the 24000 block of North Sunset Drive, Paulden. The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Gilbert Mainez, and his parents were concerned about threats Gilbert was making towards another family member. Gilbert’s parents initially met with deputies away from their home in an attempt to avoid a confrontation.

When deputies arrived at the home, Gilbert exited the front door with a large knife in his hand threatening family members who had arrived with the deputies. The deputies sought Gilbert’s cooperation several times, but he refused to allow the deputies to detain him. After learning there were children inside the home in proximity to Gilbert and the weapon, the deputies utilized an electric stun gun which assisted in reducing Gilbert’s combative behavior and allowed deputies to take him into custody.

Deputies secured Gilbert and recovered the knife. Deputies recognized Gilbert from a disturbance call earlier in the evening in Paulden. At that time, Gilbert used a completely different name when verbally providing identification. At the Sunset Drive scene, deputies verified his true name by a California identification card and comments from family members who told them Gilbert had been using the name of his deceased cousin as identification to law enforcement officers.

Gilbert was transported to, and booked at the Prescott Detention Center for Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest and Taking the Identity of Another. During the investigation, deputies learned that Gilbert had an active, extraditable, felony warrant from a California law enforcement agency resulting in a no bond hold.
