This morning at 1:00 a.m., Border Patrol Agents from the Ajo Station were patrolling near the village of Gunsite on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation when they began following suspicious vehicle tracks.  The tire tracks lead to an abandoned Chevrolet pickup truck that had been spray painted black.  Similar vehicles are commonly used in large narcotic smuggling operations.  The vehicle contained 164 bundles of marijuana.  A search of the area for any subjects associated with the vehicle was conducted but produced negative results.

The marijuana was transported to the Ajo Border Patrol Station for further processing and will be turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration. The total weight of the marijuana was over 2,800 pounds, with an estimated value of over $2 million.

Since October 1, 2007, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol has seized over 720,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $576.8 million dollars.
