Car wreck, murder-suicide involving brothers ends pursuit
02:38 PM Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, May 15, 2008
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. -- Pinal County is confirming that two men who led law enforcement agents on a pursuit on Interstate 8 late Wednesday morning were involved in a murder-suicide after their car was disabled.
The U.S. Border Patrol confirms that the vehicle involved was trying to get across the border at Checkpoint 8 when authorities directed the vehicle to a secondary checkpoint. The vehicle then turned around and fled back into the states, and border patrol units followed.
Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Mike Minter says officers heard gunshots as they were approaching the white Dodge Caliber after it was disabled by spike strips.
The vehicle was driven by two brothers from Virginia, Travis Twiggs, 36 and brother Willard Twiggs, 38, who are wanted in connection to a carjacking at the Grand Canyon National Park on Tuesday.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
