PINAL COUNTY -- Two people were killed and four were hurt when an early morning chase ended in a single vehicle rollover.

DPS officer not injured

It all started shortly before 1:30 a.m., when a Department of Public Safety officer stopped a blue four-door sedan on Interstate 10 at milepost 190 between Sacaton and Casa Grande.

While the driver did stop, he took off again before the officer could get to the vehicle.

The DPS officer chased the sedan west on I-10. The driver of the sedan got off the freeway at exit 185, but he took the exit too fast and lost control. The sedan plowed onto the dirt shoulder and rolled over.

Some of the seven people inside the car were thrown from the sedan as it rolled.

Two of them died on the scene. A third took off on foot.

The remaining four people were seriously hurt and were taken to the hospital.

None of the people from the sedan has been identified.

The Exit 185 off-ramp (to SR 187 and SR 387) was closed for several hours, but was open to traffic by 7 a.m.

DPS said the investigation is ongoing.
