Police imposters pistol-whip and rob 2 men
More Phoenix Local News06:38 PM Mountain Standard Time on Friday, June 27, 2008
PHOENIX -- 2 home invasions in one week, both involving armed men possibly dressed to look like law enforcement.
The latest home invasion happened Thursday night at the 6900 block of west Vernon.
Phoenix Police say several armed men - wearing police t-shirts and ballcaps - pistol whipped and robbed two men living inside. Investigators believe the house was possibly being used by human smugglers, and that the armed men were looking to steal human cargo.
The house was empty except for the two men inside - one 62 one 34. Both are believed to be "coyotes".
It's not the fist time smugglers have hit this neighborhood. Two years ago a neighbor says police busted a drop house right next door to this latest incident.
Thursday night's home invasion comes just 4 days after thugs armed with high-power rifles shot-up an alleged drug house at 83rd avenue and Cypress, killing one person inside.
The increased level of violence spilling into Phoenix neighborhoods is causing concern among neighbors.
