UPDATE on May 20: The County Attorney's office has handed down an indictment against David Wigton on charges related to alleged sexual abuse of minor children.

None of the victims are associated with Wigton's cases at CPS.

“It is disturbing to discover that someone who worked with children for so many years can be accused of such crimes,” Thomas said.

PHOENIX - A state employee is facing child molestation charges.

Victims are family members

Police say David Wigton is facing several charges and the victims are believed to be members of his own family. The suspect has worked side by side with CPS for years but now he is in jail without bond.

For more than 20 years, 57-year-old David Wigton has been involved in protecting children. Now he is accused of molesting one.

Investigators say Wigton molested a 4-year-old female family member and provided pornography to young relatives.

The paperwork is disturbing. It includes details of Wigton inappropriately touching the child and forcing her to perform sexual acts on him then promising pizza.

Investigators say the four-year old finally made an outcry to fellow family members.

The Department of Economic Security issued a statement saying...”For the past two years Wigton has served as a 'supervisor for the Family Connections Program' and has 'limited contact with children.'

Nevertheless, prior to that he served more than 20 years in various child welfare positions. 3TV went by the Phoenix home where he lives with his wife and two teenaged sons but nobody came to the door.

Police say inside this house Wigton also tried to destroy evidence on his computer's hard drive. He is being charged with that too.

Because the suspect has dealt with children in the past, investigators say they are prepared in case there are other victims out there that come forward.
