PHOENIX -- Phoenix police detectives arrested a man for the molestation of a 12-year-old girl.
As crime tape covered the house on Gelding drive, investigators loaded up boxes of evidence last night - mostly video and pictures.
They say that evidence has led to a new picture. Police arrested 59-year old Andrew Richard Cummings for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year old girl for almost 3 years. According to court documents, Cummings videotaped and photographed himself and the victim having sex on numerous occassions. According to social workers at Phoenix Children's Hospital, one-quarter of all girls will be sexually molested before they reach 18 years old. The reason it goes on for so long, they say is because parents often miss the signals, which include depression, withdrawal and difficulty in school.
In Cummings case, for example, police say "he bought the victim lingerie and what the *12-year old girl* described as 'sexy dresses.'" But there is no way to buy himself out of this, according to investigators. Cummings is in jail with *no bond.*
Andrew "Rich" Cummings, who is a registered sex offender, was arrested Monday near 37th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, according to Sgt. Joel Tranter.Tranter said Cummings is related to the victim, but does not reside in the same household.
Anyone having information on this or other incidents involving Cummings is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit at 602-534-3203 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
