Guilty plea to sexual conduct from former Mesa teacher
More Mesa and Phoenix Local News02:46 PM Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, July 24, 2008
PHOENIX - A former Mesa High School teacher and coach pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual conduct with a minor, but the alleged victim objected to the plea deal.
The Arizona Republic reports on its Web site that a plea agreement calls for Gay Lyn Turley of Gilbert to be placed on probation for no less than 10 years, register as a sex offender, surrender her teaching certificate and have no contact with the victim.
Turley could be sentenced to a year in prison if the crime is designated a felony, or six months in jail if it's designated a misdemeanor.
The alleged victim says she was abused between the ages of 15 and 18 and that she's upset the crime could be designated a misdemeanor.
Turley's attorney says his client violated the girl during one month in 2003.
Sentencing is set for Aug. 27.
