PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police describe the series of events they believe lead to the death of 12 year old Trenay Duchane, and the hospitalization of her 9 year old sister.
On 11/10/2007 at approximately 4:20 P.M., Jeffrey Duchane, the father of Trenay, called 9-1-1. When officers went inside Duchane's apartment they discovered the body of 12 year old Trenay Duchane, who had been dead for some time.
They also found Trenay’s 9 year old sister seriously injured and hiding in the bathroom. The 9 year old was transported and admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police say Jeffrey gave officers a false account of what happened and why he called 9-1-1. Police investigators believe the following occured.
On Tuesday evening (11/06) Jeffrey Duchane was at work and left the 2 girls in the care of 25 year old Reiko Troupe. Police say Reiko began beating 12 year old Trenay later that evening with an object and her fists, possibly 2 different objects.
Police say after the beating, Reiko forced Trenay to get into a bathtub filled with scalding hot water, which severely burned Trenay. Police the believe her 9 year old sister tried to interject, but was beaten by Reiko and seriously injured.
Police believe Trenay died on the 6th, and was left in the bathroom with her 9 year old sister for 3 whole days until Jeffrey called the police on November 10th.
Police have arrested Reiko Troupe on a 1st degree murder booking and Jeffrey Duchane on chile abuse and failure to protect bookings. Charges may change as details become more clear.
Police say both Jeffrey and Reiko implicated each other in separate interviews at the police station.
