FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Three hikers in Flagstaff were rescued Monday afternoon after spending a night out in the wilderness.
A 45-year-old man, along with a 10-year-old and his 37-year-old father, left their car at Trinity Heights Church on Sunday afternoon to hike Mount Eldon. They were able to reach the top of the mountain by 7:00 p.m.
The group began their trek down the same way they came up, one of the men believed they saw a bear, so they headed east. They wound up in a steep ravine that led to the Water Falls.
Police say due to the steep, rocky terrain and dark conditions, the three decided to spend the night outdoors. At some point, the 45-year-old injured his knee.
At about 7:40 a.m., they called a relative waiting for them in the parking lot on a cellphone. The relative then called police, who were able to find the hikers and escort everyone down.
