PHOENIX -- The flu outbreak continues to hit Arizona hard, as the virus appears to be reaching its peak here.
So how do you know if you're coming down with the flu, or something else?
A swab test is making it easier to find out than ever before.
It may leave you a little teary-eyed, or even a little uncomfortable, but Valley pediatrician Vinay Kwatra says it's a painless way to get tested for the flu.
"It does go in through the nose and into the back of the nose and throat area,” says Dr. Kwatra of Paradise Pediatrics. "There are other tests that can be done if we send samples to the lab."
But this test only takes ten minutes to get the results. And depending on the time of year, Dr. Kwatra says he may not even need to use the test.
"If it's early November and you have flu-like symptoms, we might rely more on the test," he says. "But if you act like you have the flu now, and there is so much flu here, we may just treat without the test."
