How to prevent foodborne illness at your Memorial Day cookout

PHOENIX -- Cookouts, picnics and barbecues are Memorial Day traditions, but they're also fraught with potential danger.

Foodborne illnesses like E.coli, listeria, salmonella and staphylococcus aureus can rear their ugly heads and make the entire family sick.

Symptoms of food poisoning generally crop up within two to six hours of eating the offending food. but sometimes it can be as long as 12 hours or even a couple of days before you get sick.

Possible symptoms of food poisoning include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, and general weakness. which can be quite serious.

Dr. Art Mollen stopped by to give Kaley O'Kelley some foods to watch out for, as well as a few basic tips on how to avoid food poisoning.
