PHOENIX -- A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot at a shopping center in Phoenix late Friday morning.

Police said the man had arrived at Deer Valley Towne near 31st Avenue and Beardsley Road to meet his girlfriend for a movie when he was approached by a car while walking through the parking lot.

Phoenix police spokesman Detective James Holmes said someone inside the vehicle pointed a handgun at the man and ordered him inside. Once in the car, the suspects ordered the victim to hand over his property.

At some point, the victim was able to get out of the car and shots were fired. The victim was struck by gunfire and he fled to a nearby Starbucks to get help.

Witnesses told police that the suspect vehicle fled west through the parking lot and headed north on 31st Avenue.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police are still searching for the suspects. No descriptions have been released.

The suspect vehicle was described as a late '70s to early '80s silver Cadillac with a white roof, dark tinted windows and a broken driver's side window.

Police are asking anyone who may have information pertaining to this incident and/or the suspect vehicle to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
