PHOENIX --  Hotels are expected to rake in $2.1 billion this year just in fees alone.

It's a new forecast from New York University.

Fees are up because more people are traveling. Now, that's a good sign for the economy.

But hotels are also finding new fees to tack on, and the existing fees are rising.

There's the typical fee for cancellation, and a room service fee.

But how about charges for an in-room safe, or to use wi-fi, or to leave early?

Over the past decade, hotel fees have risen almost every year except during the recession.

These charges tend to show up more at high-end hotels, resorts, and in major cities.

Be sure to look for special disclosures on your reservation confirmation.
