PEORIA, Ariz. -- A Peoria woman who moved here earlier this month from New Mexico, says she basically paid "twice" for the move.
Before leaving New Mexico, Chrystal Woods searched the Internet for a moving company and came across First Call Movers. According to their website, they're moving brokers, which essentially means you pay them to find a moving company to load and transport your stuff.
First Call Movers quoted Woods $1,489 for the move, and asked that she pay $593 up front as a deposit. Woods says she paid, but as her move date got closer, she says First Call Movers claimed they were having trouble find a moving company. "I called them like two weeks before I was supposed to move to make sure everything was okay, and they said that they hadn't found anybody yet but they weren't worried."
Woods says she called Fist Call Movers almost every day leading up to her move, but they kept telling her they were having a difficult time securing a moving company. Woods says she even postponed her move date two extra days to July 3, in hopes they would secure movers.
However, on July 3, First Call Movers still had no luck. Woods recalls what the company representative said when she called her. "She said no, we still don't have anybody, and that was at 10:00 in the morning on the day I was supposed to move."
Aggravated, Woods threw her belongings into a U-Haul that she rented at the last minute and moved everything herself. But what about that $593 deposit she paid?
First Call Movers told Woods wouldn't be getting it back because she was the one who canceled and when a customer cancels within 7 days of a move there's a "no refund" policy.
Documentation provided by Woods clearly spells out the "no refund" policy. But Woods contends she's not the one who canceled. She says it was First Call Movers which failed to secure a moving company for her by her move date.
3 On Your Side got involved and initially, First Call Movers stood their ground, saying Woods canceled, so no refund. But after further discussions with them, First Call Movers changed its mind and refunded Woods the entire $593.
Woods is ecstatic and believes she wouldn't have received any kind of a refund without assistance from 3 On Your Side. A big thank goes to First Call Movers for looking into the matter at 3 On Your Side's request and coming to a resolution.
