Police investigate attempted ATM theft in Gilbert

GILBERT, Ariz. -- Gilbert police said someone tried to steal an ATM from a bank Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to an alarm at the Chase bank at 882 S. Greenfield Road shortly after 4 a.m. They discovered an abandoned utility trailer and a tow strap attached to an outside ATM machine.

Sgt. Bill Balafas said the ATM was damaged in an attempt to pull it from its foundation.

Police did not find any suspects in the area.

The trailer was reported stolen in Mesa earlier in the night.

The suspect or suspects did not get away with the ATM or any money.

Detectives are investigating the incident.
