PHOENIX -- Two teens who became stranded while hiking in Echo Canyon Monday evening were rescued in a complicated operation that involved two separate rescue teams and the Phoenix Firebird helicopter.

Bruce Haffner talked to Joe Hanss, the pilot who was at the controls of the helicopter that air-lifted the boys off the mountain.

"We're able to get the victims off the mountain quickly with a minimal amount of Fire Department personnel being involved," Hanss explained. "We want to try to limit exposure of everybody involved in the rescue."
