Man on bike hit by car in front of elementary school

PHOENIX – A man on a bike was hit by a car in front of an elementary school Monday morning.

It happened at about 8 a.m. in front of Lookout Mountain Elementary School just west of Central Avenue and south of Coral Gables Drive (south of Greenway Parkway).

Aerial video from the scene showed emergency medical crews putting the victim into an ambulance. A bike and a stopped car were visible on the corner.

Early reports indicated that the victim was a child, but a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman later said it was a 54-year-old man.

The man's condition was not known, but Bruce Haffner in the Fort McDowell Casino News Chopper noted that the EMTs did not appear to be rushing, indicating that the victim was stable and his injuries likely relatively minor.

The man was take to John C. Lincoln Hospital.

Monday morning’s accident serves as a reminder to drivers to be extra watchful for pedestrians and people on bikes.
