TEMPE, Ariz. -- It started as a French film back in 1973. It was later a hit in theaters starring actors Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. Now La Cage Aux Folles is a hit on Broadway! It is a hilarious and touching story about a loving and devoted family that is unconventional, but doesn't let their differences get in the way of each other's happiness.
The show, which features an array of drag queens, is the winner of three Tony Awards, including the award for Best Musical Revival.
It tells the story of a gay couple. Georges is the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez. When his son brings his fiancée’s conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly!
"La Cage"is a tuneful and touching tale of one family’s struggle to stay together, stay fabulous, and above all else, stay true to themselves.
Kristen Stewart of Twilight recently did a photo shoot in drag for Elle Magazine. The makeup and wardrobe supervisor traveling with "La Cage" offered to transform me into my "drag alter ego," Diamond, so I could do my own version of that photo.
"La Cage Aux Folles" is playing at Gammage through Sunday, May 20.
