PHOENIX – A 70-year-old Phoenix woman was sexually assaulted as she returned to her apartment early Monday morning.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, two men confronted the victim near 32nd Street and Earll Drive at approximately 12:45 a.m. and forced her into her apartment at gunpoint.

"One suspect sexually assaulted the victim while the other stood there standing guard, watching the whole thing," Crump said.

She was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly in good physical condition.

Phoenix police put the east Phoenix neighborhood on alert.

"I locked the doors and all the windows," said the victim's neighbor, Ashley Thomas. She slept through the attack next door and only woke up when police began banging on her door.

Shock rippled through the complex.

"It's just unspeakable. I mean, how do you forcibly take someone like that? I just don't even want to think about it," said another neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

One suspect is described as a dark-skinned Hispanic male with a heavy or muscular build, 25 to 30 years old, and 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts at the time of the assault.

The other suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male with a skinny build, 25 to 30 years old, and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a beige shirt and long khaki pants.

The victim said both suspects spoke Spanish and English.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
